If you're one of the millions of Americans who suffer from joint, muscle and/or soft tissue pain caused by sports, repetitive stress, or over-use, you may be a candidate for electro-shockwave therapy. If the thought of surgery and invasive procedures intimidates you, then electro-shockwave therapy becomes an even more appealing option. Wilner Medical is one of the few treatment centers in the metro area fully-certified on all three FDA-approved electro-shockwave technologies. These treatments are completely non-invasive and have shown legitimate results in the reduction of joint and muscle pain. |

The answer to this question is best answered after a consultation and thorough examination of the patient. Often, a conventional course of action may solve the problem. This can include medicinal prescriptions, physical therapy, modalities, and/or injection therapy. Conversely, we may determine that electro-shockwave therapy should begin immediately – or after a sustained conservative treatment program. Whatever the case, Wilner Medical can provide a complete course of treatment, including conservative and electro-shockwave therapies, all at one location -- thereby providing patients with the highest quality medical care and the least possible hassle. |

Various studies done on the three FDA-approved electro-shockwave treatments have shown substantial results. A June 2000 study reported in The American Journal of Sports Medicine found that electro-shockwave therapy was actually more effective than drugs in relieving pain associated with lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow). Based on our own research, over 80% of Wilner Medical patients who have undergone a course of electro-shockwave treatment have experienced a significant reduction in pain and/or an improvement in mobility and function. |

The number of visits required for electro-shockwave therapy depends on several factors, including the nature of the ailment, and the patient's response to conservative courses of treatment. In general, the number of treatments required on each of the three electro-shockwave technologies is as follows:
 |
The Sonicur
Usually requires three separate visits, each one week apart.
|
 |
The Dornier Epos Ultra
Usually requires a single visit/treatment. |
 |
The Ossatron
Usually requires one visit (this particular treatment is performed outside the Wilner Medical offices, at one of five conveniently located facilities in the metropolitan area).

The basic premise for all three electro-shockwave therapies is the same. All three focus shockwave energy on an afflicted area to relieve pain, and all three are completely non-invasive. Each treatment, though, requires varying degrees of preparation, and may vary in terms of procedure and frequency of treatments. Please visit our treatments page for specific details regarding these procedures, or call us at 212-207-9288; we'll be happy to discuss any questions or concerns you might have. |
