PRP stands for platelet rich plasma. It is your own blood that has been treated by spinning in a centrifuge, until the platelets have been separated from the red cells and are concentrated in a portion of the blood called plasma.
Dr. Wilner M.D., F.A.A.P.M.R specializes in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, a field that some have called non-surgical orthopedics. After having trained at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, Dr. Wilner incorporated into his practice cutting-edge technologies, including Orthotripsy (a technology using shock waves), Medical Botox for the treatment of muscle spasms and diabetic neuropathy, and most recently Platelet Rich Plasma. Come inside and learn how Wilner Medical's safe and effective non-surgical solutions can provide permanent relief to ailments such as tennis and golfer's elbow, Achilles tendinitis, heelspurs, shoulder and knee pain, lower back pain, myalgia and fibromyalgia -- all without surgery and without extended hospital stays.
Because it is the platelets that have the important growth factors that help in healing bone tendons and ligaments, a high concentration of these factors greatly improves healing. Unlike "visicosupplements" (like hayaluron) that simply replace a substance in the joint that is in short supply, PRP actually helps to heal the affected body part. |

Your treatment with PRP begins with a medical history that includes your current symptoms and continues with a physical exam. Sometimes diagnostic tests will be needed, some of which you may already have had done and will not need to have repeated (MRI, X-Rays etc.).
If it is determined you are a candidate for PRP treatment at your next visit, a small amount of your blood will be drawn from your arm. It is then spun in a centrifuge for fifteen minutes to concentrate the platelets along with the associated growth factors. The platelet rich portion of your own blood is then injected into the affected area.
While it is rare to have pain at the injection site, some patients experience discomfort, which can be treated with oral medications. |

| In this challenging financial environment, consideration must be given to the cost of medical care.
Dr. Wilner M.D., F.A.A.P.M.R accepts all commercial insurance plans with out of network benefits. He also participates in Medicare. Many patients will find that their out of network benefits cover a portion of or even the full cost of PRP treatments. The billing department will routinely submit your bills as a courtesy.
It is also worth noting that when taking into account the cost of alternative treatments and time lost on prolonged therapy, the cost of medications and even the possibility of eventual surgery, PRP can often be a financially attractive alternative. |
